My top 10 dress patterns to make with handloom Ikat fabric

I've been deliberating over sewing patterns to sew up with our new Faberwood Ikat fabric. Handloom fabrics due to their relaxed and natural weave are fabulous and comfortable to wear in any season. They also tend to 'settle' in once sewn up and washed into a stylish garment featuring that light slub style with a worn in look. That's what I love the most about these textiles, it's in the nature, expect some mismatched threads here and there! They are great for most things and I can go on and on with the endless supply of indie sewing patterns out there. Here I've picked my favourites dress styles...

Wool Coatigan 'Silvia' Lined with Atelier Brunette Fabric

I have to admit I almost gave up on this project. I've had this Silvia Coatigan sewing pattern printed and cut out for around 2 years and just never came across the right fabric. Last Autumn I found this wool mix coating from the Knitting and Stitching Show in Harrogate. With Christmas coming up I wanted a jacket to throw on whilst flying around in the car visiting the relatives. I chose our Bye Bye Birdie fabric (all time favourite fabric) for the lining because it looks so stunning with the blue, I can never tire of this timeless Atelier Brunette design. So I set about...

Cosy 'Cabin Pants' made in our organic Teltta sweatshirt fabric from Finland

I've had the Hudson Pant sewing pattern printed and cut out for around two years! I suppose I'm not really a sweat pant wearing person but I liked the style of these and thought they looked fun to make. Decided our Tellta fabric was ideal, outdoor vibes and chilling in the woods.  Modelled here by my daughter Amber, they're possibly a little big for her but she wore them for the rest of the day saying they are the comfiest ever. I think she will keep them!

Lark Tee made in Monochrome 'Straws' Jersey Knit

I love sewing with Finland knits, they are so well made and tend not to stretch out due to the good amount of elastane in them. This fabric Monochrome Straws form our collection is organic jersey from Finnish design brand Papu Stories. Here I made the classic Lark Tee sewing pattern by Grainline Studio (one of my favourite pattern designers). This version is a short sleeved crew neck, perfect to wear with jeans. Shortening this by 3 inches was my only alteration, I find this pattern quite long for me. Really happy with the result. Blah...

My favourite young sewing blogger, Anna, has made these fabulous trousers in Faberwood fabric! She used the Aime Comme Marie silver pineapple printed chambray we sent her and what fabulous pants these turned out to be! Anna did a hack of the Tilly and the Buttons Margot Pyjamas. You can click through to her blog Let's Get Sewing which is also full of so many more beautiful makes. Thanks for sharing these wonderful photographs Anna! X

Ogden Cami made in African hand dyed indigo cotton

Another successful Spain make for this year, the Odgen Cami by True Bias in our African Indigo Cotton. This top was just perfect for the intense heat, feels really floaty and very nice to wear. As this hand dyed fabric comes in quite a narrow width I didn't cut enough from the bolt so I improvised and pieced it together flipping the design around and forming a seam down the middle - a detail I quite liked in the end. I didn't need to make any other adjustments, the fit was simply perfect on me which is a surprise for this style on my slightly short...
