Derwent Handloom Indian Ikat by Fiona Trevaskiss

How happy are we to introduce to you our very own 'bespoke' homespun Ikat!!! It's been in my mind for a while to design my own fabric and I was delighted to get the chance to have my design hand woven in India! (it's produced by the weavers of our Spot Chambray). I designed this Ikat pattern taking inspiration from the environment we often find ourselves in here at Faberwood. We take most of our photographs around our local reservoirs and the many hills of the Peak District National Park. Some of you will know how much we love the outdoors and you probably won't be surprised that this became the overarching theme.

I was keen to keep the design in a random repeat and to have a simple colour palette. I decided on a 'slightly washed' look black base, to carry us through all seasons. This homespun cotton is a light to medium weight feel and suitable for most makes as it has a fairly solid structure along with it's slub feel. Shirts, tunics and trousers all spring to my mind. 

As with all our traditional Indian fabrics you get the little imperfections within the weave, adding to the charm of how these are produced, on hand looms producing this raw, naturally dyed authentic cotton. It is recommended that you pre wash cold before using just to fix any of the excess dyes.
