Japanese Selvedge Denim 12.6 oz Dark Blue

For our growing Japanese selvedge denim collection we are delighted to add this well sought after denim. We have been waiting patiently for this, with its classic dark shade of blue, makes me think of the James Dean era. A forever classic worker raw denim look whilst carrying quite a neutral deep blue hue. Japanese manufacturers take great pride in their diligent attention to detail, not mass-produced and in limited quantities. You can see and feel this, the precision and quality are ready to stand the test of time.

This selvedge denim features a lovely white selvedge and is in the same range as our grey selvedge denim, which can be made into jeans on our blog. It is a rigid denim but very soft and pliable. It's absolutely amazing to sew which, in my experience, is worlds apart from regular cheaper thick denim. Beautiful to handle and has slight give in the weave, it is quite special and must be seen to believe!

A note on care and laundering this fabric - the factory notes 0-3% possible shrinkage. I had a chat with my denim supplier who advised against pre-washing prior to sewing, as it would wash out the starch making it less easy to sew with. In fact, would you even ever wash it?!! There is nothing worse than spending time and energy on a garment with the fear of shrinking afterwards, so I did my own wash test. I cold soaked a 15cm square piece and I found no shrinkage but please err on the side of caution - adding a little allowance within your pattern is advised.
