African Hand Dyed Batik Ocean by Grace Adover
Sold as a one off panel 120 x 113 cm each, only 2 available
A very rare and wonderful fabric coming from a community of unique textile artisans based in Ghana, we only have two pieces of this as they are made completely by hand just like an artists painting!
The colours created during this unique dying process mean each section is different throughout which you can work into your project. It would be suitable for clothing or decor and will soften quite a bit when washed and handled. This was a joy to photograph, I love the denim tones in this wonderful blue shade it definitely has a summer vibe!
A little bit about the Batik:
Batik is wax applied to the fabric before the dying process, where dye cannot penetrate the waxed area the fabric keeps it's original colour. and where there is no wax, the dye colours the fabric. The wax can be applied with many different tools, from foam rubber to wooden stamps and brushes. Some wax is dripped from a height and in many layers, with dip dyes in between - can you imagine the work?!
A little bit about crispness:
Feeling crisp at first, the fabric will go quite soft when washed. If you want to keep it crisp, just don't wash it!
Treat this fabric with gentle care and always use a mild detergent no hotter than 30°
100% cotton
120 length piece at 113 cm wide
Gentle wash 30°
