We have managed to acquire some beautiful fabrics from Thailand recently and I could not resist this luxurious 100% cotton that is double-faced. I find this so unusual I had just had to add it to our collection. This is two layers of indigo-dyed fabric stitched together and you can choose to use either side. Sourced from an expert denim supplier who has a close connection with textile mills in Japan and Thailand. I think this was originally produced for high-end shirt making. I love the geometric mini ikat design backed by an interesting woven check. These mills supply exclusive clothing brands that specialise in authentic styles, dedicated to timeless style.
I love how the sunlight picks out the varying blues which show the true indigo yarns, similar to indigo denim. I must warn you though the dye rubs off especially when dry, so it's essential to wash before use or you will have blue hands! Please see the notes below regarding a test wash I did.
I can think of many uses for this intriguing fabric, it is soft enough for dresses, tunics shirts, or a lightweight jacket. I also think it would look great made into casual trousers, lovely for lounging in. Plus some turn-ups showing the flip side.
It is best to treat this fabric like a fresh new pair of unrinsed indigo jeans (don't sit on a cream sofa!) I had blue hands handling this so I did my own wash test by washing 'cold' using mild detergent and air drying which really made a huge difference and more washing and wear should probably fix it. Well worth the effort in my view, it's stunning and rare.
