Japanese Selvedge Denim 12.6 oz Black Black

A classic black Selvedge denim from Japan from the same range as our Grey Selvedge denim. A fabulous addition to our growing Japanese selvedge denim collection. I've been on a black denim hunt since forever and we've stocked a similar one before which went down a storm with our customers. I think it's a little less predictable and harder to get hold of! This is a smarter-looking denim that will make really stylish clothing. The warp and weft threads are both black which gives it the flat matte appearance, you definitely know where you are with this for making sharp and expensive-looking modern jeans or jackets.

Something is quite forgiving about this denim, it's silky soft and woven in a way that will handle so well when sewing. Combined with the fabulous signature red selvedge, I guarantee you will not be disappointed. This is a perfect blank canvas for all your top stitching experimentation. Unless, like me, you're tempted to keep things minimal and understated while letting a glimmer of the red selvedge shine. I am excited by this, I really hope you are too!

If you want to get your creative hands on something a little different, I highly recommend this. Japanese manufacturers take great pride in their diligent attention to detail, not mass-produced and in limited quantities. You can see and feel this, the precision and quality are ready to stand the test of time.

A note on care and laundering this fabric - the factory notes 0-3% possible shrinkage. Previous advice from my denim supplier advised against pre-washing prior to sewing, as it would wash out the starch making it less easy to sew with. In fact, would you even ever wash it?!! There is nothing worse than spending time and energy on a garment with the fear of shrinking afterwards, so I did my own wash test. I cold soaked a 15cm square piece and I found no shrinkage but please err on the side of caution - adding a little allowance within your pattern is advised.
