Beach dress made in Tatouée Pour La Journée jersey

I tend to only wear dresses in the summer but living in the UK doesn't always mean warm weather! Having a family trip to Spain planned I leapt at the opportunity to sew this fun fabric up into an easy 'throw it over a bikini' style beach dress. This Tatouee Pour La Journee fabric has a great quality stretch and is easy to sew, I didn't use my overlocker, just a regular small zig-zag that works so well on stretch fabrics.

I couldn't find the style I wanted in a dress pattern so I chose a top to extend into a dress. Settling on the Adventure Tank by Fancy Tiger Crafts, I like the muscle back feature and the trim binding. This was a great hack, playing around with the seam width and making sure the style was not too fitted, I wanted relaxed with some drape. Finally I liked the raw hem idea, with the black contrast stitch that I thought went well with this style and design.

Not the sunniest of pictures here on this hot La Manga beach. Also, being on holiday mode, I only remembered at the last minute that I wanted to take photographs of this dress, by which time I'd been in the sea and felt pretty windswept! The stormy clouds rolling in created a strange grey light - which kind of goes with the fabric!

Being able to whisk this off to Spain must have been perfect! I love how simple the shape of the tank is, yet it’s so flattering as a dress. It looks super comfy too!
