After I have finished dancing around with sheer delight at this ‘one-off’ discovery, I’ll compose myself and tell you a little about it! I fell completely for this gorgeous intense burgundy colour, it looks like nothing I’ve seen before with it’s Art Deco style pattern. This is a genuine African wax print cotton fabric printed in Ghana, of medium weight, there is a distinct branding along the selvedge that guarantees this. I have been told that there are lots of imitations around. Another interesting feature of this fabric is it’s finish, the technique being called ‘calendared’ - that is, run through rollers at high temperatures and pressure, rather like a super-iron. This produces the shine on the surface of the cloth and as it washes it softens giving it an almost ‘lawn’ effect. I think this fabric will be a joy to sew with, you really do need to ‘feel’ it! This would make the most beautiful and very unique clothing and we only have 5 meters, that’s it! A classic textile that has been designed with patterns to suit contemporary modern tastes - this is as awesome as it gets!
